The first step is to create a user account. Once this has been done, users may register future journeys they intend to make either as drivers or passengers.
A driver registers a journey, which is recorded in our database. If a matching journey request made by a passenger already exists in the database, the driver is notified and then has the choice of proceeding to offer the passenger a lift. If no initial match is found, the driver's journey remains registered on the database until the date of the journey. The driver is informed of any subsequent matching journey requests made by passengers up to and including the date of the journey.
A user may register a journey request at any time. If an existing match is found, the driver is notified and then has the opportunity to make the offer of a lift to the passenger.
Once a lift offer has been made by a driver, the prospective passenger receives email notification of this offer. The passenger then acccepts the offer and the driver receives confirmation of acceptance of the lift. Once the driver has made the offer of a lift, he/she and the propspective passenger are able to contact each other through the Car Companion messaging system.
